Guns, Ammo Arsenal Found In Drunk Driver's Crashed Car In Western Mass: Police

Drunk, high, and armed to the teeth. That's how Massachusetts State Police described a Connecticut woman they arrested Thursday, Oct. 19, after she crashed her car into another vehicle in Hampden County while intoxicated.

Catherine Hansen, 45, of Enfield, Connecticut, faces a slew of charges after police said they found a pistol and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in her wrecked car in Agawam, authorities said. 

Hansen is accused of speeding when she crashed into a car just before 1 p.m. at the Agawam Rotary on Route 57, State police said. Several people in the car she hit were injured. They were taken to area hospitals for treatment. 

Hansen was angry and belligerent towards the officers immediately and spat on one of them as they picked her up after cuffing her. Police said she showed signs of being drunk and high.

Officers found a loaded .45 caliber pistol, firearm parts, numerous magazines, and hundreds of rounds inside her wrecked car, troopers said. Hansen does not have a license to own a firearm, they added. 

Authorities charged Hansen with: 

  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicating liquor
  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicating drugs
  • Negligent operation of a motor vehicle
  • Assault and battery on a police officer
  • Resisting arrest
  • Illegal possession of a firearm
  • Carrying a loaded firearm
  • Possession of a large-capacity feeding device
  • Possession of ammunition without FID card
  • Improper storage of a firearm
  • Refusal to identify self to police
  • Failure to yield
  • Marked lanes violation
